5 small changes you can make to celebrate earth month with your kids and start clean beauty transition

April 22nd is earth day and I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate with Kai! Have you talked about Earth Day with your little one? I think the toddler age is the perfect age to introduce the idea and have them help in conserving for the environment. The entire month of April, we are starting conversations about small changes we can make for Mother Earth. Today, I am so excited to sharing my top 5 family friendly ways to celebrate Earth Month. As for us mamas, one of the easiest things to do is be more conscious about we put on our bodies and what goes down the drain.

We started detoxing our household products in 2017 and I really focused on clean beauty products in 2018. Clean beauty products like shampoos and conditioners are the first things I swapped out in our routine. Not only because they absorb fast through our pores, the ingredients that get washed down also matter. It doesn’t have to be expensive to make the switch.

Kroger is our one stop shop for everything household and beauty. They are carrying the new Love Beauty and Planet line of shampoo and conditioners at such a reasonable price. Right now, they have an amazing beauty event where you can Buy $15, Save $5! It’s easy to make the clean switch when the prices at Kroger beauty are sooo good! The impact goes even further when you pick up Love Beauty and Planet from their beauty aisle. I have a serious crush on this conscious beauty line because of their goal: “to make you more beautiful and give a little love to our planet”. All their products are cruelty free, vegan, paraben free and silicones free. They harness all the natural goodness from fruits, flowers and plants like coconut, lavender and Ylang Ylang to give you soft shiny hair that smells seriously insane. I love that all their bottles are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. The Love Beauty and Planet conditioners are also designed with water consciousness in mind. They have a special fast-rinse formula that will minimize water usage with mindful showers! Love Beauty and Planet also reduces and offsets their carbon footprint by supporting third party programs that help reduce carbon emissions and landfill waste. A little love and intention can go such a long way. I think if we just make small changes and are consider what we use daily, we can preserve our planet for the next generation. If you are heading into Kroger this weekend for your grocery run, stop by the beauty isle and take advantage of the special buy $15 save $5 sale and feel good about doing a little more for our planet all the while!

5 ways to celebrate earth month with a toddler

So, I turned off the water while Kai was in the middle of brushing her teeth the other day and for the first time ever, she asked me “why did you turn off the water”. I paused for a second and thought, this is the perfect time to start talking to her about Earth Day and the little things she can start helping with to make our planet a better place. We talked about saving water, recycling, helping animals and the little changes we will be making. Here are a few to help you get started:

  1. Switch to showers. The easiest transition for our family was to switch from baths to showers. We cut down her water time to under 10 minutes and she gets to spray herself down and make it into a game.

  2. Start an herb garden. Herbs by her windowsill is a great reminder to take care of the planet. Planting teaches her responsibility and she gets to harvest the basil and scallions to use while we cook together.

  3. Turn off water while brushing teeth. It takes kai notoriously a long time to brush her teeth. Teach your children why we conserve water by starting small right at the sink.

  4. Encourage toy donation. We spring cleaned her toy bins and Kai got to choose items to keep or donate to other families. We talked about the importance of giving toys a second life and sharing it with our friends after they have served their purpose with us.

  5. Take a nature walk. This is my favorite way to start talking about Earth Day – by appreciating it out in the wild! Take a hike and talking about all the plants and animals you encounter. Visit your local botanical gardens, plan a trip to the zoo, donate to animal conservancy in your child’s name (or better yet, give them money to be donated for the exhibit of their choice).

Together we can all do our part in protection our planet. From everyday changes, like being more conscious of your beauty routine to teaching the next generation, conservation can be fun, informative and easy. Happy Earth Month and I cannot wait to hear about the small changes you are making!

Thank you Kroger for sponsoring this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
