5 Ways to Have More Calm in Your Day

5 Ways to Have More Calm in Your Day

Thank you Gain for sponsoring this post. All thoughts an opinions are my own

Home is our sanctuary, a place where we can unwind from the day's worries even if just for a bit.  As a mom of two and an entrepreneur, my life is a bit more hectic. Now that I work from home, it seems like life's busyness has slowly leaked into our home. It's hard to keep work separate from home life when you work from home. Our life is busy, our minds are busy, our roles are many. The demands we put on ourselves and the demands that others put on us can take a toll on us. Experiencing calm seems so out of reach when everything seems to be keeping us busy. Here are 5 tips to help bring some more calm into your day.

5 tips to help bring some more calm into your day.

1. Try Essential Oils - You've probably heard a lot of buzz around essential oils. There are so many benefits to using them. We have used some like lavender and chamomile daily in our household for many years. There are so many ways to use essential oils. 2. Create a Morning Routine - I am not a morning person by any means. But I do know that I like to start the day with some time to myself. I try to wake up 15 minutes before the kids get up. I make myself a cup of coffee or tea and sit and list out the things I am grateful for. I'll go through my daily affirmations. This time in the morning is just for me and myself before the rush of the day begins. It helps set the tone for the rest of my day.

3. Incorporate Music Thoughtfully - Music has a powerful way to change your mood. We certainly have our fair share of dance parties in our home. Whenever I feel the stress of life come on, I turn on some music and just jam out. Turning on music also helps my kids calm down as well. Since they were babies, we play music to calm and soothe our kids. Music can do the same thing for us as adults. Start off the day with some relaxing music to set the mood for the day.

4. Disconnect From Technology - Being that I work online, I check my phone A LOT! It's become more of an addictive level of checking my phone. I make sure to remove my phone from my bedroom where I am tempted to check it before I go to bed or when I wake up. When I'm mindlessly scrolling, I find myself comparing myself to others and shopping for things that are unnecessary.  I also lose track of time and then become rushed and panicked when it's time to clean or cook the kids lunch. This is far from making me more calm. Stepping away from technology a little bit each day helps me stay in the moment and stay more relaxed. My kids can sense my calmness as well which transfers to them feeling more calm as well.

5. Let Go of What's Not Important - This is something I have to consciously work on. Sometimes life is moving too fast and you lose sight of what's really important. I get caught up in work and there are times I get snippy with my family. I take a step back and realize that work will always be there. The time with my kids and family is fleeting. Even if you have routines set in place, there are times that just goes out the window and you have to be okay with it. It's okay to leave the mess for a bit. It's okay to break routine when everyone is tired and cranky. It's so hard to do, to let go of the things we can't control, but it will bring more calm into your life when you're not so worked up about certain things.

Being calm and experiencing it is a conscious choice. It's not that you're pretending that you don't have worries, fears or frustrations. You're just setting them aside for a period of time during your day to experience the joy of just BEing.
