Every October I get this warm and empowered feeling for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you guys aren’t familiar with our story, both my parents have dedicated their careers to breast cancer research. In fact, it’s the reason we moved across the world from China, to Germany to Houston in pursuit of their life long research goals. Every time I see our community rally together to support this life saving cause, I think of the hours my parents spent working hard on a cure and the rewarding excitement my dad would get when he reached a research breakthrough. That’s why I am so proud to partner with Stage stores this October to turn it into Pink October with my #ipinkican moments! All month long, Stage is celebrating “her” and raising awareness and money for Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

All of October, Stage is helping raise money for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) through fun in-store and online opportunities. Not only can you find select pink items in stores with 50% of the price donated, you can also participate in the online fundraising campaign. For every #ipinkican moment shared with the hashtag on Facebook or Instagram during October, Stage will donate $1.00 to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I’d love to see all my readers (YOU), share your #ipinkican moment! It can be a moment of strength, in support of a friend, a moment of celebration, whatever makes you unique and inspired! For me, #ipinkican means to raise a strong daughter. One of the things I have been mindful to practice with Kai is positive affirmation. I have often heard children are a reflection of us and what they hear turns into their inner monologue. I want to be intentional with my words and start the practice of positive affirmations with Kai at an early age. After all, I truly believe in the power of positive self-talk and its effects on self-esteem.

Here are 3 tips on practicing positive affirmations with your toddler:

 “Repeat After Me”

Simple phrases to start the morning routine can have positive impacts on their whole day. When your kids aren’t old enough to write down their own affirmations yet, writing some down on a sticky for them and reading for them to repeat can be just as effective. We use different color sticky notes and put them on her mirror. I ask Kai to repeat after me in the morning. It takes just a few minutes and instead of telling her to rush out the door, we direct her focus on having a confident day.

Keep it simple

I noticed when Kai was starting the potty training, we started chanting “I can do this” while she was on the potty. I saw that she would then chant this to herself even when I wasn’t around. Simple little phrases like that can really carry them through the day and feel pride in their accomplishments.

Repetition is key

Working positive affirmation into the morning is a great start. I am working with Kai now to repeat them 2-3 times throughout the day.
